I have friend and “Marketing Mentor” @AdamUrbanski to thank for bringing this to my attention…

This July 29th article is light in content but is of great interest to me because it comes from an expert source on marketing outside of the Twitter/Internet marketing community.

Marketing Sherpa is a site I began following years ago when I worked for a marketing agency with a few Fortune 500 clients. I consider it a very trusted source and authority site.

I just discovered Ed Dale via his Thirty Day Challenge, which I’m currently participating in. After watching him on UStream last night, I was intrigued to learn more about this interesting Aussie and discovered this video on YouTube, which is perfect for Twitter Marketing Secrets.

In this classic 14 minute video, Ed walks us through a very effective Twitter/blog combo in a unique niche market. I say “classic”, because the video was posted over 3 months ago (which is just about ancient history in today’s instant information world!).

The Earthquake - Twitter Connection

I live in Southern California and “enjoyed” the ride of this morning’s earthquake. Almost immediately, I Tweeted about it and then watched additional Tweets stack up from others experiencing it, and folks from all over the world expressing concern.

What a phenomenal case study for the power of Twitter to connect mobs/tribes/communities of people in real time. How can we harness that energy to change the world? Now there’s something to ponder.

So what does this have to do with marketing? This article at the Standard.com talks about how they used the Twitter search tool to track the number of updates about the earthquake.

You can use the same technology to track conversations related to your niche market and connect with potential customers, suppliers, joint venture partners and industry experts.

Shake up your business with Twitter marketing.

Twitter Viral Marketing, iPod Promotion

Last week Peter Shankman, publisher of “Help a Reporter Out”, gave away an iPod Nano (donated by my service, Logo Your Audio, “toot”) to the 75th Tweeter who tweeted “ KARMA AND NASA, THE @SKYDIVER HARO CATS, ARE NOT FAT - THEY’RE JUST BIG BONED!”.

So … if Peter can get 135 Tweetsters to instantly post such hyrogliphics by dangling a iPod carrot, what prize/incentive can you offer to stimulate a run on your Tweeter page? Hmmm?

By the way, witnessing that simple act of instant viral marketing was the inspiration behind Twitter Marketing Secrets!

Twitter is appropriately named because it’s very easy to “Twitter away” an hour, an afternoon or even a whole day.

I very much enjoy the Twitter experience, but I also hold, “Work smart, not long”, as a personal mantra. Are these two things mutually exclusive? Inquiring minds need to know! That’s why I’ll be tuning into Paul Colligan’s “Twitter Your Business Without Twittering Away Your Life” webinar on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 12 PM, PDT.
